Kolkata Law College Gang-Rape Accused Demanded Death Penalty in Previous Case

The prime accused, Monojit Mishra, in the alleged gang-rape of a 24-year-old student on the south Kolkata law college campus in Kasba, had demanded the death sentence for the guilty in the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital rape and murder case last year. Mishra, a former student of the college and now a non-teaching staff, expressed his demand for justice on social media.

The body of the 31-year-old second-year postgraduate student, who was raped and murdered inside a seminar hall of the hospital, was found on August 9. The accused in that case was sentenced to life imprisonment as the court did not consider it as the \"rarest of the rare\" deserving a death penalty.

The recent incident occurred on the law college campus between 7.30 pm and 10.50 pm. Four individuals, including a staffer, two students, and a security guard, have been arrested. The involvement of political figures has sparked controversy surrounding the case.

Monojit Mishra and two students were among those arrested. The college's governing body had employed Mishra on a contractual basis. The political affiliations of the accused have also come under scrutiny, with conflicting statements from different parties.

The BJP alleged Mishra's involvement with the student wing of the TMC, while the ruling party denied his significant role within the organization. The TMCP state president emphasized that Mishra held a low position in the party and that the organization cannot be held responsible for the actions of its members in their personal lives.
