Boy, 9, undergoes kidney surgery after playground fall in Bukit Batok

A nine-year-old boy fell from the monkey bars at a playground in Bukit Batok, resulting in the removal of one of his kidneys. The incident took place on June 20 around 6pm at a playground beside Block 443D, Bukit Batok West Avenue 8. The boy, Liu Junwen, was playing with other children when he fell from a 1.8-metre high monkey bar, hitting his abdomen on a plastic divider.

His parents noticed he was urinating blood and rushed him to the hospital. X-ray scans revealed a severe rupture in his right kidney, leading to a three to four-hour surgery to remove the kidney. Currently in the ICU at National University Hospital, he is fed through a tube and under observation.

The father hopes their experience will alert other parents to supervise children during playtime. Another incident in Sengkang last year involved a two-year-old who suffered a head wound while playing at a playground. Parents are advised to supervise children at playgrounds and ensure safety.
