Airbus CO3D Satellites Prepared for Launch by CNES

The latest generation optical satellites, developed by Airbus in partnership with CNES, are en route to their launch pad in French Guiana. The satellites will be launched by Arianespace on a Vega-C rocket on 25 July.

The CO3D satellites will provide high-resolution imagery services, including a 3D map of the Earth's landmass. They will operate for eight years, delivering data for military and civil applications.

Innovations on the spacecraft include an optical laser communication system and the ability to execute onboard applications. The satellites will also have enhanced imaging capabilities to observe dark areas at night.

Following the mapping service, the satellites will be available for other missions and customers. The CO3D programme benefits from expertise acquired through the development of the OneWeb constellation.

Microcarb, a carbon monitoring spacecraft, will also be launched on the same rocket to map the carbon content of the atmosphere at planetary scale.
