Two Chinese nationals, Feng Yunlong and Zhang Yongxiang, received 15 months' jail time each for breaking into a house in the Greenleaf View residential area in Bukit Timah. A man and his lookout were sentenced to 15 months' jail for breaking into a landed property in Bukit Timah. Feng Yunlong, 38, and Zhang Yongxiang, 52, were caught for the break-in at Greenleaf View residential area. They pleaded guilty to housebreaking charges at the State Courts. A series of burglaries at landed properties has been reported since last year, with some linked to foreign syndicates. Between June and August 2024, 10 cases were reported in private estates around the Rail Corridor and Bukit Timah Road, with stolen items valued at S$3.85 million.
The two Chinese nationals arrived on a social visit pass just before the break-in. They targeted a house in the Greenleaf private residential estate. Zhang wore gloves to avoid leaving fingerprints and stole two watches. The watches stolen were worth S$8,800 and S$150. Both men were arrested two days later. The prosecution sought 14 to 16 months' jail for each accused due to aggravating factors like psychological harm to the owner and the high level of planning involved.
Both men, unrepresented, expressed their hardships and hopes for early release. The judge questioned their motives for coming to Singapore when they had family responsibilities back home. Feng vowed not to repeat the offense and Zhang admitted his greed led to the crime. Each man faced a maximum sentence of 10 years' jail and a fine for housebreaking.
