New Study Reveals Alternate-Day Fasting as Superior to Intermittent Fasting and Calorie Cutting for Weight Loss

With people becoming more health conscious, diets aiding in weight loss are gaining popularity. A new study published by The BMJ reveals that alternate-day fasting is more effective at boosting metabolism than intermittent fasting and cutting calories. Nearly 2.5 billion adults globally are overweight, with around 890 million being obese. Doctors recommend weight loss to reduce metabolic risks like high blood pressure and diabetes. Intermittent fasting involves cycling between eating and fasting, while alternate-day fasting suggests fasting every other day. The study analyzed 99 trials involving 6,582 adults and found that alternate-day fasting produced modest weight loss benefits and lowered bad cholesterol levels. However, it did not reach the clinically significant threshold for weight loss in individuals with obesity. Researchers suggest alternate-day fasting as an additional option for weight loss.
