Monsoon rains have claimed the lives of 40 people in Punjab and KP, with urban flooding posing a threat nationwide. In Punjab, 18 individuals lost their lives, while 22 fatalities were reported in KP. The heavy rains, strong winds, flash floods, and landslides have resulted in 68 injuries and damage to 102 houses in the affected regions.

The Provincial Disaster Management Authorities of Punjab and KP have reported the casualties and damages. The PDMA in Punjab, under the guidance of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, has issued a Monsoon Alert Fact Sheet detailing the current situation of water levels in rivers, barrages, and dams, along with updates on rainfall and damages.

According to the PDMA spokesperson, areas like Murree, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Attock, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot, Hafizabad, Chakwal, and Dera Ghazi Khan have experienced rainfall in the last 24 hours. The report highlighted that during this monsoon season, 18 lives were lost, including children, women, and men, with injuries and house damages reported across various districts.

The PDMA Director General mentioned that the first monsoon spell will persist until July 1, with a risk of urban flooding in certain areas. Necessary preparations have been made to tackle potential flooding, and financial aid will be provided to affected families as per government directives.

In KP, heavy rains and flash floods have caused significant damage, with 18 individuals swept away by rising water levels in the Swat River. Authorities have issued warnings about further flash floods and landslides as the monsoon season continues. The PDMA has released a report detailing the loss of lives and property in several districts, urging immediate relief and medical assistance for the affected.
