Measles Alert in Grimshaw: Potential Exposures Identified

Alberta Health Services (AHS) has confirmed cases of measles in the North Zone where individuals were in a public setting while infectious. Additional locations may be disclosed if needed.

People who visited the Grimshaw / Berwyn and District Community Health Centre Emergency Department on June 29, 2025, between 9:15 – 11:50 a.m. (MDT) may have been exposed to measles.

Measles is highly contagious and spreads through the air. Symptoms include fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes, and a rash that starts behind the ears and spreads to the body.

Complications can be severe, especially for pregnant women, young children, and those with weakened immune systems. If symptoms develop, individuals should stay home and call the measles hotline before seeking medical help.

Vaccination is the best prevention. Alberta offers free measles vaccines through the immunization program. It is recommended to have two doses, with the first at one year and the second at 18 months.

For those in the North Zone, additional immunizations are available. Infants aged 6 to 11 months can get an early dose, and those born before 1970 can consider a single dose.
