Married Couple Scams Wife's Boyfriend of $220k in Fake Property Investment Scheme

Felicia Tay Bee Ling and Eric Ong Chee Wei collaborated to deceive Mr. David Tan with a fake property investment scheme. Tay, who was having an affair with Tan, convinced him to invest in non-existent condominium units at discounted rates. Ong, a former property agent, aided in the deception. The couple pleaded guilty to cheating charges, with Ong making a partial restitution. The court did not disclose their current marital status. The sentencing is scheduled for July.

According to Deputy Public Prosecutor Kiera Yu, Tay and Ong orchestrated the scam in 2015, exploiting Tan's trust and relationship with Tay. They misled Tan into paying 'security deposits' for properties that were never for sale. Tay provided fake documents and assurances of high returns, while Ong facilitated the fraud using forged forms. Tan realized the deception in 2016 when he received no returns and eventually reported the incident to the police in 2019.

Mr. Tan's breakup with Tay in 2017 led to his discovery of the scam. The investigation revealed the fraudulent nature of the transactions, leading to the arrest of Tay and Ong in 2022. The case highlights the importance of due diligence in investment decisions and the consequences of financial fraud.
