Jairam Ramesh Criticizes PM Modi's Argentina Visit, Recalls India's Connections

Congress leader Jairam Ramesh criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his frequent international trips, calling him a 'super-premium frequent flyer' during his visit to Argentina. Ramesh highlighted the historical connections between India and Argentina, including the honor bestowed on Indira Gandhi in 1986 when Argentina released stamps featuring her image.

Ramesh also mentioned Rabindranath Tagore's visit to Argentina in 1924 and his friendship with Victoria Ocampo. He shared insights on Indira Gandhi's meeting with Ocampo and Jose Luis Borges' fascination with Buddhism. Ramesh also discussed economist Raul Prebisch's contributions to developmental economics.

Ramesh took a swipe at PM Modi and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar for using the term 'Global South,' which originated from UNCTAD. He criticized PM Modi for not visiting Manipur amid ethnic violence.

PM Modi's visit to Argentina marked the first by an Indian PM in 57 years, following trips to Ghana and Trinidad & Tobago. He is set to attend the BRICS Summit in Brazil and visit Namibia next.
