The Department of Transportation (DOTr) in the Philippines is investigating the alleged collusion between Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) security personnel and taxi drivers who are taking advantage of passengers. The investigation includes looking into overcharging by taxis and a reported '60-40 extortion scheme.' DOTr Secretary Vivencio Dizon mentioned that the airport police division of the Manila International Airport Authority is also under investigation. The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has started recalibrating meters of airport taxis to ensure fares comply with regulations.
According to Dizon, efforts are being made to address the issue, with five individuals already removed from their positions. The investigation is ongoing to tackle the problem of abusive taxi drivers and their collaborators in the airport police.
