The News AI Lab is open to individuals, with a focus on news publishers, digital media channels, and content creators in the country. The program aims to help participants integrate AI tools into their daily operations, especially those from digital-first newsrooms or those exploring innovative content creation and delivery methods.
The 18-month program starts on July 11, 2025, and ends on Jan. 11, 2027, divided into three phases:

- Phase 2: Learning (three days) - In-person or virtual workshops will provide hands-on training with Google's AI tools. Participants will be assessed for readiness and engage in design thinking exercises to develop AI-based solutions for their newsrooms.
- Phase 3: Implementing (15 months) - Participants will be guided in identifying opportunities to utilize AI in their work. They will create and test prototypes customized to their newsroom requirements.
Google emphasizes that the program aims to deliver lasting benefits to newsrooms by fostering understanding and practical application of AI.
