Faith Kipyegon's Attempt to Break 4-Minute Mile Falls Just Short
Kenya's Faith Kipyegon gave it her all to run a mile in under 4 minutes but finished with a personal best of 4:06.91. Despite her strong effort, the exhibition event in Paris means her time won't be a record. Supported by pacers and innovative gear, Kipyegon's determination was evident until the final lap.

Kenya's Faith Kipyegon attempted to break the 4-minute mile barrier but fell short by seconds with a time of 4:06.91, a personal best. The event, sponsored by Nike, was not eligible for a record due to being considered an exhibition.
Supported by 13 pacers, Kipyegon's effort looked promising until the last half lap. Despite collapsing at the finish line, she expressed gratitude to the crowd and her supporters, stating her exhaustion but satisfaction with her attempt.
In preparation for the attempt, Kipyegon utilized pacers, custom spikes, an innovative speed suit, and a 3D-printed sports bra. She is a two-time gold medalist in the 1,500 meters and won silver in the 5,000 meters at the 2024 Olympics.
Roger Bannister, the first person to break the 4-minute mark in 1954, used pacers as well. Kipyegon's attempt was described as a 'moonshot' by Nike, aiming to overcome a historic milestone.
