Ecuador's Most Wanted Drug Lord 'Fito' Captured in Underground Bunker

Ecuador's most wanted drug lord, Adolfo Macías Villamar, also known as 'Fito', has been captured by police in Ecuador. Macías is the leader of the criminal gang Los Choneros, which is responsible for the high murder rates in Ecuador. He is suspected of ordering the assassination of a presidential candidate in 2023. Police found him in an underground bunker beneath a luxury home in Manta.

The operation to capture Macías involved police and the military and lasted for 10 hours. The bunker had air conditioning, a bed, a fan, and a fridge. Macías was taken into custody without resistance and is now in a maximum-security prison in Guayaquil. He had previously escaped from prison twice.

President Daniel Noboa praised the security forces for the capture and announced that Macías would be extradited to the US for cocaine smuggling charges. Macías had been leading the Los Choneros gang from prison, engaging in drug trafficking and extortion. He had also formed alliances with the Sinaloa cartel from Mexico, leading to the spread of violent tactics in Ecuador.

Before his escape, Macías appeared in a music video glorifying his criminal activities. The video was filmed partly inside the prison, showing him interacting with other inmates.
