Convicted Killer Seriously Injured in Mountjoy Prison Attack

Courts adjourn hearing after medical update on Mountjoy beating six weeks ago. Stephen Kearney was due in court this week. A convicted killer, Stephen Kearney, remains seriously ill in hospital after being savagely beaten in Mountjoy Prison in early June. The attack is suspected to have been ordered by gangster Robert ‘Roo’ Redmond. Kearney was scheduled to appear in court for a section 99 hearing but his barrister informed the court that he was assaulted and hospitalized. The hearing was adjourned to July 28th. Kearney had been left fighting for his life in hospital following the brutal beating by fellow inmates in Mountjoy. He had been set to be released from prison shortly before the incident. Kearney has a history of convictions, including manslaughter. The attack is believed to be linked to an ongoing dispute in the prison involving Redmond and others.
