Vijay Deverakonda Removes 'The' Tag After Backlash: Prefers Name Only

Vijay Deverakonda, in a recent interview, discussed the decision to add 'The' as a tag to his name and later remove it due to backlash. The actor faced trolling for adding 'The' during the release of 'Liger' in 2022, which did not perform well at the box office.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter India, Deverakonda mentioned being the only one to face resistance for his tag in the industry. He expressed his desire to be known simply as Vijay Deverakonda without any tagline.

He recalled how his team suggested adding a tag to his name around the time of 'Liger', but he resisted the idea. Deverakonda emphasized that he wants to be recognized by his name and not by any tag.

He explained that media articles often labeled him with different names like 'Southern Sensation' or 'Rowdy Star', which he felt were limiting. Deverakonda decided to remove 'The' from his name to be known solely as Vijay Deverakonda.

He expressed his preference for people to know his character in 'Kingdom' rather than him personally. Deverakonda instructed his team to remove the tag from his name and emphasized his desire to be remembered simply as Vijay Deverakonda.

Vijay Deverakonda's upcoming movie 'Kingdom', directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri, is set to release on July 31.
