Anup Kumar Nair, 55, from Navi Mumbai, was rescued by SEAL after he locked himself in his flat for over three years due to depression. He is now at SEAL Ashram in Panvel.
A 55-year-old man, identified as Anup Kumar Nair, isolated himself in his Navi Mumbai flat for over three years after the death of his parents and brother. He communicated with the outside world through online food orders. Social workers from SEAL received a distress call and rescued him from his messy apartment.
Both of Nair's parents passed away in the last six years, while his elder brother died by suicide about 20 years ago. This led to deep depression, causing him to avoid leaving his flat. Nair is currently at SEAL Ashram in Panvel for care and treatment.
Nair's neighbor mentioned that he rarely opened his flat door and needed assistance with daily tasks. After being rescued, Nair expressed his loneliness and health concerns, stating he cannot find a new job due to his poor health.
Experts suggest that grief from losing loved ones can lead to loneliness and depression, causing individuals to withdraw socially. Abraham Mathai, founder of Harmony Foundation, highlighted the importance of reaching out for help to prevent such situations.
