Police Seize P103M Worth of Smuggled Cigarettes in Northern Mindanao
Police in Northern Mindanao confiscated smuggled cigarettes worth P103 million from January to June, a significant increase from last year. A total of 111 anti-smuggling operations were carried out, with Lanao del Norte Police recovering P31.3 million. The success was attributed to coordinated efforts among law enforcement agencies and the public.
Police in Northern Mindanao seized smuggled cigarettes worth P103 million from Jan. 1 to June 22. This is a significant increase from the P14.5 million seized during the same period last year, according to Police Regional Office 10-Regional Public Information Office chief Police Major Joann G. Navarro.
A total of 111 anti-smuggling operations were carried out in Northern Mindanao this year, a notable rise from the 24 operations conducted in the same period last year. The Lanao del Norte Police Provincial Office recovered P31.3 million, followed by the Misamis Oriental PPO with P27.6 million, and the Regional Mobile Force Battalion (RMFB) 10 with P22.4 million.
Unified coordination among law enforcement agencies, government bodies, and the public was credited for the success of the campaign. PRO-10 Director Police Brig. Gen. Rolindo M. Suguilon stated that the increased operations and confiscations reflect the intensified efforts against smuggling activities.
Suguilon commended the dedication of police officers on the ground who work tirelessly to intercept illegal shipments. He emphasized the importance of community vigilance and cooperation in the fight against smuggling, urging the public to report any suspicious activities to strengthen the campaign.
