Police Report Officers Attacked at Protest in Epping Asylum Hotel

Police officers were assaulted and their vehicles were damaged during a protest at a hotel used to house asylum seekers in Epping, Essex. About 400 people were at the site on Thursday, with some protesters throwing eggs and setting off fireworks. One officer suffered minor injuries, and the hotel itself was damaged. The police closed a section of High Road for safety. Ch Supt Simon Anslow stated that the offenders do not represent the community. Last week, local leaders called for the Home Office to stop housing asylum seekers at the hotel after an arrest for alleged sexual assaults. The Home Office mentioned restoring order to the asylum system, with a man arrested in connection to an assault near the hotel.
