Paramount+ Rebrands to Paramount Premium, Dropping Showtime

Streaming has brought changes for premium cable brands. Paramount has decided to drop Showtime from its flagship streamer, renaming the highest subscription tier to Paramount Premium. Showtime programming will still be available on Paramount+.

The rebrand does not come with any pricing changes. Paramount+ Premium remains $12.99 a month, while the Essential tier is still at $7.99. Paramount Global reported 79 million global streaming subscribers as of the end of the first quarter.

Paramount faced a similar dilemma as Warner Bros. Discovery with its streaming operation. Showtime was integrated into Paramount+ in 2024, combining a variety of content on the platform.

Media companies are streamlining their streaming portfolios for scale and cost efficiency. Disney has incorporated Hulu and ESPN+ programming into Disney+, aiming to reach a larger audience and maximize ad revenue.
