Pakistan Urges Global Recognition of Taliban Rule in Afghanistan
Pakistan's UN Ambassador calls on the world to accept the de facto Taliban government in Afghanistan to prevent a new conflict. The international community is urged to engage with the Taliban and release Afghanistan's frozen assets to address the humanitarian crisis.

Pakistan’s United Nations Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad urged the international community to recognize the de facto Taliban rule in Afghanistan to prevent another conflict in the war-torn country. While Pakistan has not officially recognized the Taliban government, it maintains diplomatic engagement with Kabul and calls for unfreezing Afghanistan’s assets to address the humanitarian crisis.
Russia recently became the first country to recognize the Taliban, emphasizing the need to acknowledge the authority controlling Afghanistan. Ahmad highlighted the threat of terrorism from Afghanistan, particularly from groups like Daesh, Al-Qaeda, Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), and Baloch militants operating in ungoverned spaces.
He emphasized the importance of a unified international voice to ensure a stable and prosperous Afghanistan free from terrorism. Pakistan expressed readiness to support engagement efforts with clear objectives and a realistic roadmap, emphasizing that isolation and coercion will not achieve desired outcomes.
The development coincided with additional talks between Pakistan and Afghanistan to deepen trade cooperation, address militancy, refugee deportation, and facilitate legal travel between the two nations.
