Karnataka Deputy CM Shivakumar Urges Legislators to Avoid Endorsing Him Amid Leadership Speculation

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has stated that he does not want any recommendations from Congress legislators for any post, emphasizing the need to strengthen party discipline. He urged Congress leaders to focus on the upcoming Assembly elections in Karnataka in 2028.

This clarification from Shivakumar comes amidst speculation of a power struggle within the Karnataka Congress leadership. Reports surfaced following claims by Congress legislator HA Iqbal Hussain suggesting that Shivakumar might become the chief minister in the near future.

Senior Congress leaders like Mallikarjun Kharge and Randeep Surjewala have dismissed these speculations of a leadership change. Shivakumar reiterated that the Congress high command will take action against those creating unrest within the party.

Despite reports that over 100 Congress legislators support a change in leadership, Shivakumar emphasized that he does not seek any support and aims to resolve issues through discussion. The internal rift within the party has resurfaced, with differing opinions among party members.

The leadership struggle between Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and DK Shivakumar has been ongoing since 2023. While there have been calls for a change in leadership, the final decision rests with the Congress high command, as stated by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge.

AICC general secretary Randeep Singh Surjewala, who is engaging with party legislators, has clarified that discussions are not centered around a leadership change. The party continues to address internal dynamics and maintain party unity.
