In a sweeping crackdown to punish those with links to Israel, Iran executed three men for spying for Benjamin Netanyahu. The hanging follows a 12-day conflict over Tehran's possession of nuclear weapons, during which at least 700 persons were arrested for ties with Israel.
The executed men are Idris Ali, Azad Shojai, and Rasoul Ahmad Rasoul. The executions occurred in Urmia, a city near the Turkey border. The judiciary stated that the men attempted to import equipment for assassinations, cooperating with the Zionist regime.
Iran is known for arresting and executing individuals accused of working for Israel. After Israel's strikes on Iran on June 13, Iran promised swift trials for those suspected of collaborating with Israel. Recently, a man convicted of being an agent for Israel's Mossad spy service was also executed.
