How Windows 10 Users Can Extend Security Updates with Microsoft Rewards Points
Microsoft offers Windows 10 users the option to purchase Extended Security Updates (ESUs) for $30 or redeem 1,000 Microsoft Rewards points. ESUs provide bug fixes, security updates, and technical support until October 13, 2026. Users can continue using Windows 10 without ESUs but will miss major updates. Microsoft will deliver MS 365 app security updates and Windows Defender antivirus intelligence updates until October 2028. Windows 10 users can enroll in ESUs through notifications and Windows Settings.

As we approach Windows 10's end-of-support on October 14, 2025, Microsoft is offering users the option to purchase one year of Windows 10 Extended Security Updates (ESUs) for $30. Additionally, users can now use 1,000 reward points to acquire an ESU. This could be beneficial for those who have accumulated Microsoft Rewards without realizing it.
The Windows 10 ESU provides bug fixes, security updates, and technical support until October 13, 2026. Users who do not purchase the ESU can still use Windows 10 but will not receive major updates. However, Microsoft will continue to provide security updates for MS 365 apps and Windows Defender antivirus until October 2028.
Microsoft will allow Windows 10 users to enroll in the ESU through notifications and Windows Settings. The enrollment process is currently available to Windows Insider testers and is expected to be widely available to general users in mid-August.
While some users may be hesitant to transition from Windows 10, Microsoft has made improvements in Windows 11, addressing concerns such as displaying app names on the taskbar. Notifications to upgrade to Windows 11 may increase after October.
