Google Introduces AI Mode in Search for Indian Users
Google has launched AI Mode in Search for a select group of users in India. This feature, currently in the experimental phase in Labs and available in English, offers advanced reasoning, multimodality, and the ability to provide more in-depth answers to complex questions. Users can now ask longer, more detailed questions and receive comprehensive responses in one go, making it particularly useful for tasks like comparing products, planning trips, and exploring various topics.

On Tuesday, Google announced the arrival of AI Mode in Search for select users in India. The feature will be available as an experiment in Labs, in English, the company stated in a blog post.
AI Mode is Google’s most powerful AI search, offering advanced reasoning, multimodality, and the ability to delve deeper through follow-up questions and useful web links, according to Hema Budaraju, Google’s vice-president of product management – Search.
AI Mode in Search allows users to ask longer, more complicated, or nuanced questions that previously required multiple searches. It is beneficial for exploratory questions, comparing products, planning trips, or learning complex how-tos.
KEY FEATURES OF AI MODE
- Handles complex queries
- Multimodal search
- Real-time, relevant results
- Follow-up prompts
- User feedback
AI Mode breaks down complex questions into sub-topics, asks multiple questions simultaneously, and combines answers into one relevant content output.
Google leverages its extensive index, Knowledge Graph, and shopping data to provide up-to-date information, summaries, and links. The system also offers follow-up question suggestions and uses feedback from Indian users to enhance AI Mode for local needs.
In May last year, Google introduced the AI Overviews feature to offer users quick information sampling. The feature ensures a diverse range of websites for complex questions, with links receiving more clicks than regular web listings.
Google aims to prioritize valuable traffic to publishers and creators as it scales the AI Mode experience.
