Brazilian Tourist Found Dead After Falling off Indonesia's Mount Rinjani

A Brazilian tourist, Juliana Marins, fell near an active volcano in Indonesia and was found dead after a four-day search and rescue effort. She slipped and fell off a cliff on Mount Rinjani on June 21 while climbing with a tour group. Indonesian rescue workers reached her body on June 24. Her family confirmed her death and expressed gratitude for the support received. Brazil's government also confirmed the tragic incident after challenging rescue efforts due to adverse weather conditions.

Marins fell about 1,600 feet and was motionless, according to drone footage. Her sister mentioned that she was abandoned by her tour guide before the fall. Rescue operations were deemed risky due to the sandy terrain, making retrieval difficult. Despite efforts to reach her, Marins was confirmed dead by rescuers. The evacuation process was halted to respect the victim and her family.

Efforts to retrieve Marins' body are set to resume, with the hiking trail closed for the evacuation. Mount Rinjani has seen several accidents in recent years, with tourists losing their lives while hiking, including a Malaysian tourist who fell off a cliff last month.
