21-Year-Old Man Faces Sentencing for Involvement in Attack on Woman Resulting in Vision Loss
A 21-year-old man is set to be sentenced for his role in an attack that left a young woman permanently blind in one eye. The incident involved the man procuring the assault on the woman, following previous harassment. The attack took place on December 30, 2021, in Ballyfermot. The man made phone calls leading to the assault, which resulted in serious harm to the woman and her friend. Two others have already been sentenced in connection to the attack.

A man pleaded guilty to procuring an attack on a young woman, resulting in her losing vision in one eye permanently. Jack Cummins (21) admitted to causing serious harm to Alanna Quinn Idris on December 30, 2021. He made phone calls to his cousin, leading to the assault. Ms. Quinn Idris was struck with an electric scooter saddle, leaving her blind in her right eye. Two others were also assaulted. Jack Cummins pleaded guilty to violent disorder and assault causing harm. Two men have been sentenced, while a fourth remains unidentified.
Jack Cummins did not physically assault Ms. Quinn Idris but struck her friend. The attack lasted a minute and ended when passersby intervened. Ms. Quinn Idris underwent emergency surgery and lost vision in one eye permanently. Photos of her injuries were presented in court.
Two others involved in the attack have been sentenced. Darragh Lyons received four and a half years, and Josh Cummins received a five-year sentence with two years suspended. Ms. Quinn Idris stated she is now permanently disfigured due to the incident.
Jack Cummins made phone calls out of fear, not intending the consequences. His defense highlighted his low risk of re-offending, good work history, and engagement. The case is adjourned for finalization.
