Tragedy at Sigachi Industries: Death Toll Reaches 34 in Devastating Fire Incident
A fire at Sigachi Industries has claimed the lives of 34 individuals, with many more injured. The company has halted operations for 90 days due to extensive damage. The incident, caused by a blast, led to the collapse of the building where approximately 60 people were present. The victims, mostly migrant workers, were rushed to hospitals with burns and injuries. Rescue efforts are ongoing to clear debris and identify any remaining trapped individuals.

The company has announced a 90-day halt in operations at the facility due to damage to equipment and structures within the plant. Sigachi Industries stated that the incident resulted in loss of life and injuries, with around 60 people present during the blast that caused the building to collapse.
Many of the workers were migrants from states like Jharkhand, Odisha, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal. The unit produced microcrystalline cellulose, a binding agent used in pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and food industries.
According to a senior rescue official, pressure built up during the operation of the spray dryer, leading to the blast. Approximately 25 victims were taken to nearby hospitals with burns and injuries, some suffering from inhaling toxic fumes.
Rescue efforts are ongoing to clear debris at the blast site, with uncertainty about the number of people still trapped. DNA testing is being utilized to identify charred bodies, and the government has expressed shock over the incident, promising compensation to the affected families.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered condolences and announced financial aid for the families of the deceased and injured.
