The Indo Daily: Husband who sued police over wife's murder probe passes away

James Livingstone, who sued An Garda Síochána for branding him a suspect in the murder of his wife Grace Livingstone at their Co Dublin home in 1992, was laid to rest last week. He had sought damages for alleged false imprisonment and abuse of the legal process after Ms Livingstone (56) was found with a fatal shot to her head in the bedroom of the couple’s home at The Moorings in Malahide.

The murder was one of the most high-profile cases of the time because no motive could be found. The couple’s children, Conor and Tara, also sought damages for emotional suffering and a breach of their constitutional rights.

On the day Grace Livingstone died, an immediate neighbour heard a loud noise. In the run up to Christmas, the last thing a quiet cul-de-sac in Malahide, Co Dublin, suspected, was a murder on their street. But when Grace Livingstone's husband James, arrived home from work that December evening in 1992, he discovered his wife dead in their bedroom. She had been brutally murdered with blood all over her head, and her body gagged and bound.

Today on the Indo Daily, Kevin Doyle speaks to Conor Feehan, News Correspondent with The Irish Independent, who was present for James’s funeral ceremony. The podcast also features excerpts from an interview recorded in August 2023 with Sarah Caden, who told the listeners the Unsolved story of Grace Livingstone's murder.
