Three schools in Iloilo province received 21 tent classrooms a week after the opening of school year 2025-2026. Gov. Arthur “Toto” Defensor Jr. led the ceremonial turnover on Monday, June 23.

Alimodian National Comprehensive High School in Alimodian town received 10 tents. The school was hit by an early morning fire on June 2. Nineteen classrooms were damaged.

Ardemil National High School in Ajuy town received nine tents. The school is grappling with severe classroom shortage.

Leonora S. Salapantan National High School Extension in San Miguel town received two tents. This school serves students in far-flung barangays.

The distribution of tents is a program of the Iloilo Provincial School Board (PSB). PSB Secretary Maria Freda Fajardo said the governor borrowed the idea of using tents as classrooms from the Philippine Red Cross and United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund.

The tents were customized to fit standard classroom requirements to make it more suitable for students and teachers. These were designed by the Provincial Engineer’s Office and installed by the General Services Office (GSO).
