Norwegian Tourist Detained in US Not Over JD Vance Meme, CBP Reveals

The US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has clarified that a Norwegian tourist, Mads Mikkelsen, was not denied entry to the United States over a JD Vance meme found on his phone. Mikkelsen claimed he was detained at Newark Airport in New Jersey and authorities found two images on his phone, one featuring US Vice President JD Vance. However, CBP stated that his entry denial was due to his admitted drug use, not the meme.

According to Mikkelsen, he was detained, questioned about various topics without reason, and threatened with a fine unless he provided his phone password. US immigration authorities demanded details of his travel plans and contacts he intended to meet.
