Brentford Chief Challenges Ineos as Bryan Mbeumo Eyes Manchester United Move

Manchester United continue to chase Bryan Mbeumo and will hope to sign the Brentford forward early in July.

July is here, and Manchester United’s transfer business should ramp up this month. Matheus Cunha has joined United from Wolverhampton Wanderers, but he will not be the only attacking addition. United hope to sign Bryan Mbeumo in the coming days, having identified the Brentford star as a key target. The Cameroonian is likely to join Cunha in supporting a centre forward in Ruben Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 system, but he will not come cheap. The PSR accounting deadline has now passed, and United may have more freedom to go and strike a deal for Mbeumo early in the month.

Brentford have lost manager Thomas Frank to Tottenham Hotspur and are set to lose experienced midfielder Christian Norgaard to Arsenal. Seeing Mbeumo leave as well won’t be easy, but United are persevering with a move and will expect him to join. Bees director of football Phil Giles suggested Mbeumo could stay and that Brentford would be happy to keep hold of him. Giles has also spoken to BBC Sport, claiming that there simply hasn’t been much progress on a deal with United. Brentford appear to be aware of Mbeumo's desire to move to Manchester United, but Giles reiterated that Mbeumo could yet stay in London.

United come back for pre-season training on July 7, now less than a week away. Amorim will surely want Mbeumo snapped up for the start of pre-season training or very early into the preparations. The pressure is on Ineos to get the deal done, and Giles has certainly laid down the gauntlet with his comments. Mbeumo wants the move to Manchester, and while Brentford may still be angling for a bidding war, United simply cannot afford to let this deal slip away and must make serious progress this week.
