Australia Coach Responds to Lions Boss Over Player Release
Australia coach Joe Schmidt defends his decision to retain players for Test preparation, citing adherence to tour agreement. Schmidt assures state sides will have ample Wallabies players for tour games.

Australia coach Joe Schmidt has responded strongly to a “warning” from the British and Irish Lions that he must release players back to Super Rugby sides for tour games. Schmidt stated that his plans abide by the tour agreement and that state sides will have enough Wallabies players.
The Lions took an aggressive stance on their first day in Australia, with chief executive Ben Calveley expressing expectations for Schmidt to release Wallabies players for tour matches before the three-Test series next month.
Schmidt intends to keep around 25 players isolated to prepare for a Test against Fiji on July 6, ensuring they remain uninjured for the Lions Test series. Following the squad announcement last week, five members were left in Perth to play for the Force against the Lions on Saturday.
