Incoming Parañaque City 2nd district Rep. Brian Raymund Yamsuan plans to support the Marcos administration’s anti-crime efforts by reintroducing a bill mandating the installation of CCTV cameras in businesses. The bill targets establishments with 20 or more employees or daily transactions of at least P50,000. It requires CCTV cameras at all entrances, exits, work areas, and other key spots.

Yamsuan, a former DILG assistant secretary, believes that CCTV cameras in commercial areas can enhance public safety by deterring and solving crimes. He mentioned previous DILG circulars encouraging CCTV use in places like banks and malls. Parañaque city, his hometown, already has an ordinance mandating CCTV installation in businesses and private subdivisions.

The bill, which can be refiled from June 30, aims to prevent crimes and monitor law enforcement activities. It covers various establishments like restaurants, hospitals, malls, and offices. Yamsuan stresses the importance of maintaining operational CCTV cameras recording 24/7.
