American third seed Jessica Pegula expressed disappointment after her first-round Wimbledon exit, calling it her 'worst result of the year.' She was defeated by Italy's Elisabetta Cocciaretto in a 6-2 6-3 match on court two. Despite having a knee injury, Pegula acknowledged that her performance was subpar, lasting only 58 minutes.

Coming off a recent title win at Bad Homburg, Pegula was expected to perform well at Wimbledon. However, her struggle to make consistent progress at Grand Slam events continued. Her best result remains reaching the quarter-finals at last year's US Open, with early exits in subsequent tournaments.

This defeat marks Pegula's worst performance at a major since the 2020 French Open. Expressing her disappointment, she stated, 'I haven't lost first round of a Slam in a very long time, so that sucks.' She emphasized her frustration at not being able to turn the match around.
