A 40-year-old Russian woman and her daughters were rescued from a remote cave atop the Ramatirtha Hill in Karnataka’s Gokarna. They were found living in a makeshift dwelling in the forest after being in isolation for about two weeks. The police rescued them on July 9 during a routine patrol.
The woman, Nina Kutina, along with her 6-year-old and 4-year-old daughters, had chosen to live in the forest for spiritual solitude. The cave is in a landslide-prone area with dangerous wildlife, making it unsafe.
After counseling and informing her of the risks, the police relocated the family to an ashram in Bankikodla village. During questioning, Nina mentioned losing her visa and passport in the cave. A search operation led to the recovery of her documents, revealing that she had overstayed her Business Visa.
