A man has been charged in connection with the death of a scientist who was found seriously injured on a Dundee street. Dr Fortune Gomo, 39, who was originally from Zimbabwe, was pronounced dead at the scene of the incident on South Road. The 20-year-old suspect is due to appear before Dundee Sheriff Court. Police Scotland confirmed the death is being treated as murder.

Dr Gomo, a graduate of the University of Dundee, worked for Scottish Water. Prof Nigel Seaton expressed shock at the death of the former research assistant. Police investigations are ongoing, with Det Supt Peter Sharp leading the inquiry. He urged the public not to speculate on social media and assured that there is no wider risk to the public.

A local woman paid tribute to Dr Gomo by leaving flowers near the scene. Anyone with information is urged to contact the authorities.
