Construction Underway for New Subway at Wymondham Train Station

Housing developers Taylor Wimpey and Vistry are constructing a new subway under the railway in Wymondham as part of planned growth in the town. A key phase of the project began on Saturday, July 5. The works include temporarily removing the railway tracks to excavate the earth underneath. Drone photos taken from above the train station show a crane installing 28-tonne concrete subway sections. The railway track will be reinstalled and fully tested ahead of services resuming on Tuesday, July 8. David Kang Gil, head of asset protection at Network Rail Anglia, said: 'We support external projects that will benefit our local communities wherever we can, and the new subway will make a real difference to Wymondham. We are really sorry that passengers will face disruption in July, including on a working day, but it's fundamental to allow this scheme to move forward.' Greater Anglia passengers are also advised that Station Road will remain closed until July 27 for the construction works. The subway is expected to open in autumn 2026.
