Jacky Cheung Responds Wittingly to Fan's Request for Mandarin at Macau Concert
During his concert in Macau, Jacky Cheung playfully addressed a fan's request to speak Mandarin by humorously suggesting they learn it. Despite the audience's plea for Mandarin, Jacky continued in Cantonese, emphasizing the importance of connecting with his predominantly Cantonese-speaking audience. His witty response garnered praise from netizens for his humility and humor.

Heavenly King Jacky Cheung, 63, was performing a show in Macau as part of his long-running Jacky Cheung 60+ Concert Tour last week when he was asked by a fan to speak in Mandarin — again.
In 2023, Jacky was greeting fans outside the Hong Kong Coliseum prior to his concert when one fan requested he spoke more Mandarin because she could not understand Cantonese.
Here’s what he told the fan back then: “Learn it!”
It looks like Jacky’s stance on that has yet to change.
Midway through his concert at Macau’s Galaxy arena on June 21, an audience member shouted: “Speak in Mandarin!”
Jacky simply smiled and said in Mandarin: “Sorry I can’t speak Mandarin.” He then switched to Cantonese, addressing the entire audience, he asked: “How many of you speak Cantonese?”
The crowd immediately erupted into loud cheers.
The Heavenly King’s grin remained on his face as he continued in Mandarin again: “See? I have no choice, sorry. Learn some Cantonese, yeah?”
He then pointed to his temple and added: “Jiayou!”
Jacky’s witty response drew praise from many, with netizens impressed by his humility and humour.
Other netizens also added: “Actually he speaks Mandarin very well, he was simply retaliating against the impolite audience member.”
Jacky later elaborated on his insistence on interacting with his audience in Cantonese.
“Sorry to those who don’t understand Cantonese! Today, we’re in Macau, and most people here mainly speak in Cantonese. I might sing some songs in Mandarin, and everyone knows I’m very international, so whether I sing Cantonese or Mandarin songs, I will do my best, and I hope everyone can enjoy the concert tonight.” he said.
