Former NCT Member Taeil Sentenced to Three and a Half Years in Prison for Sexual Assault of Tourist

Taeil and his two accomplices have been found guilty of sexually assaulting an intoxicated Chinese tourist. The K-pop singer, Taeil (aka Moon Tae-il) from the band NCT, has been sentenced to three years and six months in prison. The 31-year-old, along with his accomplices Lee and Hong, were taken into custody and received similar sentences. The three confessed to taking turns assaulting the victim in Seoul. The district judge described the crime as 'extremely grave' but sentenced them to half the time requested by prosecutors, citing that they were first-time offenders.

The court ordered Taeil and his accomplices to undergo 40 hours of sexual violence treatment programming due to the severity of the crime. The victim was unconscious and unable to resist during the assault, leading to the classification of the offence as 'aggravated' assault and 'quasi rape' under South Korean law. The incident occurred in June 2024 when they met the victim in a bar in Seoul, brought her to Lee's house, and assaulted her while she was unconscious.

Taeil began his career in 2016 with NCT, gaining popularity for their music across various genres. However, following the allegations of the assault, Taeil left the band abruptly in August.
