Canucks Extend Thatcher Demko's Contract for Three Years

July 1: Vancouver Canucks have announced a three-year contract extension for goaltender Thatcher Demko. The deal is worth $25.5 million with a cap hit of $8.5 million. Demko will be a UFA in 2029 at age 33. The contract includes a full no-movement clause. He will receive a $10.5 million salary in 2026-27, a $2 million salary and $6 million signing bonus in 2027-28, and a $1 million salary and $6 million signing bonus in 2028-29.

June 30: Sources report that the Canucks are close to extending Demko's contract to keep him in Vancouver beyond the upcoming season. The length of the contract has been agreed upon, but details regarding the money and structure are still being finalized.

Demko's extension comes after a strong 2023-24 season followed by injury setbacks in the subsequent season. Despite uncertainties, he remains a key player for the Canucks.

Demko's previous contract, signed in 2021, will see him count $5 million against the cap for the 2025-26 season.
