Raipur lawyer and wife arrested for killing client over ₹30 lakh debt

A lawyer and his wife in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, were arrested for killing a 58-year-old client over ₹30 lakh borrowed as a loan. The victim's body was found stuffed in a suitcase filled with wet cement on the roadside. The accused are lawyer Ankit Upadhyay, 31, and his wife Shivani Sharma, 24. The victim, Kishore Paikara, was demanding the money back from Upadhyay. Two others were arrested for helping dispose of the body. Paikara was killed on June 21 at a rented house. The body was discovered on June 23 with tied legs and a slit throat.
CCTV footage showed the accused transporting the body in a car with a fake number plate. The police traced the car to Upadhyay and Sharma. They fled to Delhi but were caught at the airport. Upadhyay confessed to the murder, citing the victim's demand for the borrowed money as the motive.
The accused had bought a second-hand car with a fake Aadhaar card, rented a house, and then killed the victim. The police seized the car, two two-wheelers, and five mobile phones from them.
