Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif hosted a dinner for a Pakistani delegation led by former foreign minister Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari. The delegation presented Pakistan's stance on the recent crisis with India to key world capitals. The conflict between Pakistan and India involved a four-day military clash last month, resulting in attacks with drones, missiles, and artillery. The two nations agreed to a ceasefire brokered by the United States on May 10 after nearly 70 casualties on both sides.
Bhutto-Zardari led Pakistan's mission to the US, UK, and Europe to inform world powers about India's unilateral actions, including the suspension of a water-sharing treaty. The delegation provided a comprehensive perspective on the events and sought cooperation to overcome challenges.
Other members of the Pakistani delegation included Sherry Rehman, Musadik Malik, Hina Rabbani Khar, Bushra Anjum Butt, Faisal Sabzwari, Khurram Dastgir, and Jalil Abbas Jilani. Bhutto-Zardari stated that Pakistan had outperformed India in the battlefield, diplomacy, and narratives, emphasizing fair water sharing under the Indus Waters Treaty.
The conflict was triggered by a militant attack in Pahalgam, leading to accusations and punitive measures between the two nations. The Indus Waters Treaty grants Pakistan rights to certain rivers for various uses, while India controls others. Islamabad is considering a legal challenge to India's decision to suspend the treaty.
