Man (41) Faces Charges for Causing Serious Harm Resulting in Death in Balbriggan Crash

Daniel Rostas, of Hastings Green, Balbriggan, appeared in court on Thursday before Judge Michele Finan. A man has been accused of causing serious harm to another man who died after a collision in Balbriggan, Co Dublin, on Monday night. Married father-of-three Mircea Rostas (33) was hit by a car at Railway Street around 9pm. Despite emergency services' efforts, he passed away shortly after. Daniel Rostas (41) faced charges of intentionally or recklessly causing harm to Mircea Rostas and appeared in court with a Romanian interpreter.

Det Garda John Delaney informed the court that the accused made no statement when charged at Balbriggan Garda station. The defence did not apply for bail at this stage but indicated intentions to do so in the future. Daniel Rostas, unrelated to the deceased, was remanded in custody to appear on July 3rd at Cloverhill District Court. Legal aid was granted as the accused is on disability benefit, and arrangements for medical attention while in custody were made.

The charge falls under section 4 of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act, 1997. Gardaí are seeking footage from the public between 8.30pm and 9.30pm on the night of the incident and urge against sharing CPR-related videos on social media.
