Ride-hailing company Grab Philippines is implementing a nationwide fuel discount program to help drivers and motorcycle taxi riders cope with increasing fuel costs. The program includes exclusive fuel discounts at partner stations and in-app features promoting fuel-efficient driving. Grab Philippines aims to support its active drivers and riders by managing costs effectively, ensuring continued availability of the affordable GrabCar Saver option for commuters.
Managing Director Ronald Roda emphasized the company's commitment to affordability, stating that by assisting partners with rising fuel expenses, they are also safeguarding passengers' access to affordable transportation. Grab Philippines is working towards long-term solutions to enhance the country's resilience to external economic fluctuations.
Due to escalating fuel prices driven by Middle East tensions, Grab Philippines is exploring partnerships with the Department of Transportation to offer targeted fuel subsidies through GrabPay for transport network vehicle service (TNVS) and motorcycle taxi drivers. Additionally, the company is expediting the introduction of its electric vehicle (EV) taxi fleet in collaboration with EV manufacturers and the government. The EV taxi service has been launched in Metro Manila, with plans for expansion nationwide.
Roda highlighted the importance of combining traditional and alternative solutions to ensure stability for drivers and commuters amidst evolving global conditions. While unable to control oil prices, Grab Philippines aims to shape responses as a platform, an industry, and a nation.
