DA to File Charges Against Firm for Smuggling P2-M Onions in Misamis Oriental

The Department of Agriculture (DA) in the Philippines will press charges against a company that illegally brought in P2 million worth of red onions seized at the Mindanao International Container Terminal in Misamis Oriental.

According to the DA's statement on Tuesday, the consignee of the shipment from China was Lantix Consumer Goods Trading, located in Binondo, Manila.

The company had declared the cargo as frozen goods like egg noodles, croissant dough, pizza dough, buns, and spring rolls. However, a joint inspection by the Bureau of Plant Industry and the Bureau of Customs on June 11 revealed 25 metric tons of fresh red onions, which were not authorized for importation by the DA.
