China is offering its first university degree focused on pets, in response to the growing demand for skilled professionals in the industry. China Agricultural University in Beijing will introduce a new animal science major welcoming an inaugural batch of 50 students in September. Unlike traditional animal science programs, this four-year degree will concentrate on companion animals like dogs, cats, and horses. According to the university, companion animals are pets that can live with humans, communicate intimately, and bring joy to their lives. The curriculum will cover pet nutrition, breeding, behavior, and welfare, tailored to meet industry needs. Students will study at the main campus in Beijing for the first year and then at a research institute in Yantai, Shandong province for the next three years, earning a Bachelor of Agricultural Science degree upon graduation.
