Teen sprint superstar Gout Gout won his first international race as a senior athlete and broke his own Australian record in the 200 metres at the Ostrava Golden Spike meet in the Czech Republic. The 17-year-old clocked 20.02 seconds, lowering his national record by two hundredths of a second. His time was run with a legal reading of 0.0 metres per second.
At the same meet, Peter Bol won the 800 metres, finishing just one hundredth of a second outside his national record. Cameron Myers set a new national under-20 record in the 1500 metres, while Kurtis Marschall finished third in the pole vault.
Gout emerged off the bend in second place in the 200m, before catching and passing the leader in the final 50m. He beat his competitors by considerable margins and celebrated with the crowd.
