Woman Allegedly Injured Reveller During Dublin Street Mugging, Court Hears

Diane Travers, 32, of no fixed abode, was refused bail when she appeared at a weekend sitting of Dublin District Court. She was charged with a robbery on Sycamore Street, Dublin 2, on May 31 last. Garda Shane McConkey stated that the accused allegedly dug her fingernails into a reveller's arm, causing an infection, during a street mugging in Dublin.

The incident occurred around 3.15 am when the injured party was pursued by a male and the accused on his way home after socializing in the city center. The male punched him, causing disorientation, and they wrestled him into a doorway before another male joined in. The victim's iPhone was dropped, and during the scuffle, Ms. Travers allegedly dug her nails into his forearm, causing extreme pain. The trio then went through his pockets before fleeing when the public approached.

The victim suffered bruising, scrapes, and deep nail marks on his arms, leading to an infection that required medical treatment. CCTV footage was obtained, and Ms. Travers was denied bail despite a defense submission for her release with conditions. Legal aid was granted, and she will appear in court again next week.
