Texas Flood Witness Describes Furniture, Trees, and RVs Swept Away by River

A drone view shows the Guadalupe River and damage from flooding near Camp Mystic in Hunt, Texas, US on July 5, 2025.

COMFORT, Texas - Tonia Fucci, a Pennsylvania resident visiting her grandmother for the Independence Day weekend, woke early on Friday to the sound of heavy rain. She heard loud cracking noises, which turned out to be massive cypress trees falling along the river. Flash floods in central Texas have claimed the lives of at least 43 people, including 15 children. Camp Mystic, a girls camp, was severely impacted, with many girls missing or dead.

Fucci, staying in Comfort, filmed muddy water flooding the road and two RVs submerged in water. She expressed shock and little hope for survivors. Residents had to rely on each other for help before rescue teams arrived. Debris, furniture, and RVs were seen swept down the river.
