Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant achieved his career-best ranking of seventh position in the ICC Test rankings for batters after scoring two remarkable centuries in the first Test against England at Leeds. Pant's outstanding performance included scores of 134 and 118 in the Leeds Test, which England ultimately won by five wickets. His achievement matches Zimbabwe's Andy Flower as the only wicketkeepers to score two centuries in the same Test match. The 27-year-old's success is particularly noteworthy following his near-fatal car accident in December 2022, where he had to escape from his burning vehicle after it overturned. Pant remained out of action for 15 months and it appears he was never out of action. The wicketkeeper-batter earned praise from Lucknow Super Giants owner Sanjiv Goenka after his thrilling display at Headingley. In a social media post, Goenka said, 'From battling the odds after his unfortunate accident to batting his way to 7th in the ICC Test rankings, @RishabhPant17’s comeback story is truly inspirational. By setting new records and becoming the first Indian keeper-batter to hit 800 rating points, he continues to raise the bar.' 'Wishing him and #TeamIndia all the best for the rest of the series.' Pant made a triumphant return to cricket after his accident, securing a record-breaking IPL contract worth Rs 27 crore with LSG at last year's November auction. Despite initial concerns about his form, having scored only 128 runs in 10 IPL innings this season, Pant silenced critics with his exceptional performance against England.
